Unboxing Box 17, 2023 Topps Archives

It's kind of weird to see Willie Mays and Ted Williams on the 2003 design, but these are some good action shots.

1956 yields another Bobby Witt Jr. card and a city connect card.  My Bo Bichetter card was on a different stock and a completely different color.

The design from 1965 (when I was eight years old) is one of my favorites.  A bunch of Hall of Famers, old, now and soon to be.

The inserts.  Verlander is a double header and Max Scherzer with the Rangers is on the other side.  The Tony Gwynn is based on the 1957 Hit Stars set.  I have built that set twice.  It is from the year I was born.  I have enjoyed chasing the people in the set.  McGwire is based on a something else.  Thomas, Ripken, and Smith I think are supposed to be based on the 1969 poster inserts.

 

Unboxing Box 16, 2023 Topps Heritage First series

Not a whole lot in this blaster.  I had forgotten about the Angels city not being on the cards in the first series.

I did get three Padres from the box.  I didn't have any cards of Liberato before. 

The Only other card of note that I got in this box.

 

Unboxing Box 15, 1st Box Topps Flagship update

I realized as I was going through my boxes that I had two boxes of Update.  These are from the first box.  I got one pretty rare card in this box.  But first we start off with the not at all rare Stars of MLB.

I got three cards for my city connect mini collection, which will need updating soon as I read the Dodgers are getting new City Connect uniforms along with the other eight teams that will be debuting City Connect uniforms this year.  Also got a Gavin that was new to me, but not to Baseball Card Breakdown.

A few different inserts and parallels along with a Padre that wasn't in a City Connect uniform.

And here is the rare card from the packs.  Ji-Man Choi SSP Mirror Image card.  Would have liked to see it in a Padres uniform since that is where he finished the season.  

 

Unboxing Day 14, 2022 Stadium Club Chrome

Stadium Club photography is the attraction.  I don't know how I feel about Chroming it.  The Yaz will go into my City Connect mini-collection, I hope Kepler actually caught the ball and it is cool to see a future Hall of Famer pitching.

The Gavin Sheets card is what is wrong with Chroming Stadium Club.

I am of a divided mind when it comes to Stadium Club of Chrome.

Unboxing Day 12, 2023 Topps Holiday Mega Box

I have purchased this product and liked for a variety of designs that were used.  However this year there was a paucity of designs and all the base cards were the same.

Each box comes with a Christmas ornament.  Mine was Julio Rodriguez, at least my good friend Marv will appreciate this.

These are the base cards.  Five cards of Padres and a couple of cards for my City Connect mini collection.  

The parallels are so uninspired.

 On Saturday January 27, my wife, our granddaughter and I went a couple of hours south to do some thrift shopping.  I was looking for an Eugene Emeralds t-shirt.  The Ems used to be a farm club for the Padres so I wanted to include it in my new t shirt quilt.  We hit the two biggest stores in Eugene and I went through every t shirt they had and I did not find a single t shirt from the Eugene Ems.  However as we were leaving town we stopped by Hookers Sports Cards and I picked up 5 packs of 2023 Stadium Club.  On Monday the 29th I received three packs I had purchased on Ebay from Midwest Sports Cards.  I like Stadium Club for the photos.

Horizontal is nice sometimes.  The Sean Murphy card is a little too closely cropped for me.  Javy Baez is a cool perspective, Julio Rodriguez captures a moment in time.

Tony and Cal were in the same pack, I think the Tony may be from his final game.  Joc Pedersons card with the Chevron cards is fun.  MacKenzie is a nice perspective on a pitchers form.

I got a nice split on horizontal (27) and vertical (29) cards. Bryan Dello has a nice atomsphere.  The Starling Marte reminds me of a Kevin Kouzmanoff card from a few years ago.  Nice Blake Snell City Connect card with Manny Machado lurking in the background.

A nice assortment of retired guys with Ron Santo lurking on Aaron's card and maybe Rick Dempsey on Palmer's card.

A nice Gatorade bath and The Kids' follow through at an All Star game HR Derby (I think)

I really like the Corbin Carroll card.  Clayton Kershaw celebrating the World Series victory in the gold lettering.

Jacob Cronenworth showing some emotion from I think two years ago.  

I got two autographs from my eight packs.  One is somewhat readable and the other is a set of initials.  

I got two triumvirates inserts for different teams.  Tim, do you want the Lindor?

I got three red foil parallels.  That makes two Michael Grove cards from eight packs. One for Greg and one for Jim.

Once again I get a Bobby Witt, Jr card.  I seem to be a magnet for him and as seen below for Dodgers.

That wraps up my Stadium Club for this year (until Christmas when there will be a box under the tree)

By the way Japan won the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Unboxing Day 11, 2009 World Baseball Classic boxed set

 I bought this set sometime in the last five years at a local card show.  I put it in with my Christmas presents for last Christmas.  There are 55 cards in the set.  I had heard of 25 of the players featured.  

The scans in this post are the last I took with my camera before I got a new scanner, so I apologize for the fuzziness of some of the images.

Chris Denorfia was a favorite of mine when he played for the Padres.

Miguel Caberra and Ichiro are sure to be first ballot Hall of Famers when the time comes.

Another talented group of players with a couple of Hall of Famers included.

The USA team was led by a couple of Hall of Famers.  Without googling it, who won the World Baseball Classic in 2009.
