Jose and Keith

Jose Manuel Lobaton is a pretty quick through the mail signer.  He returned this card in a week last month.  He played 7 games for the Padres in 2009 and in July of 2009 he was selected off waivers by the Rays.  I mailed the card to him at Durham and I was amazed at how quickly it came back.  Keith Virgil Lockhart began his major league career with the Padres in 1994 and ended it in 2003 with the Padres.  He played with the Braves and the Royal in between, platooning with the man, the myth, the legend Bip Roberts.  I got the card signed through the mail.

Littlefield and Livingstone

JJohn Andrew Littlefield is another player that I know very little about.  For some reason I thought that he had a long career, but he only played for two major league seasons, 1980 and 1981 for Saint Louis and San Diego.  There is a signature on the card it is a very faint ballpoint, I got this off of eBay.   Scott Louis Livingstone is just the opposite of Littlefield, while I thought he just played a couple of years he actually played 8 years in the majors.   He played for 4 years for the Padres, after playing for the Tigers for 4 years.  He also spent time with the Cardinals and Expos. I got this signed through the mail.

Off the Grid

This will be part of what I am looking at from the 4th to the 14th.  I am on what has become my annual reading vacation.  I am taking twenty books with me to read, I don't know how many of them I will get through.  In the past I have read 11 while on my vacation.  I will be staying with a cousin who has five acres in Central Point, Oregon near table rock.  Don't forget their is a contest going on here and there is another one going on here.

Linebrink and Little

SScott Cameron Linebrink played 5 seasons in San Diego before signing as a free agent with the White Sox after the 2007 season.  There was a stop in Milwaukee where the Padres traded him for 3 minor leaguers.  He wears number 71 to honor Padres bullpen catcher Mark Merilla who battled a brain tumor.  I got this signed through the mail after several attempts.  William Grady Little is best known as the manager of the Red Sox and Dodgers, he never made it to the majors as a player.  I think this card is from before he became a major league manager.  I got it signed through the mail many years ago.

Sixto and Derek

SSixto Joaquin (Curras) Lezcanco played for twelve seasons in the majors, but only played 235 games for the Padres.  His brother Carlos is currently the manager of the Eugene Emeralds, the Padres Rookie league team.  I got this card from the bay.  Derek Jansen Lilliquist played for two seasons for San Diego during his 8 year career.  I got this signed through the mail.

It's Contest Time here at Padrographs

In my relentless pursuit to be the King of Leon and be the owner of more unique Bip Roberts I am sponsoring a contest for the month of June.  I will be awarding prizes on or about July 6th.  It is going to be a month long because I am going on vacation for two weeks and when I come back I will assemble the prizes.  There will be cards, sets, packs, boxes, action figures, photos and autographs available.  Everyone who enters will be eligible to win, all entries will be entered in to the randomizer and randomized 10 since that was the main number Bip wore in his career.  First place will be awarded their choice of five prizes, Second place will be awarded their choice of three prizes and Third place will be awarded their choice of two prizes.  If there are prizes still left they will be randomly sent to other entrants,  

So you ask what are the requirements of this contest.  I am looking for the coolest custom Bip Roberts card. Jimmies

James Steven Lewis pitched in 12 games iplfor the Padres in 1996 and that was the extent of his major league career.  He played two more years in the Padres minor league system and then retired.  I chased him through the mail for years and finally got this off the bay a couple of years ago.  James Joseph Leyritz became known as a postseason hero after hitting multiple home runs for various teams in the postseason, including the Padres in 1998 before they got swept  by the Yankees in the World Series.  Jim has had a less than stellar retirement.  I got this card from a seller on e Bay.

A couple of pitchers

Craig Lindsay Lefferts is 16 days younger than I am and has been retired since 1994.  I can't imagine that he is just sitting around, I wonder what he is doing now. Wikipedia says he is currently the pitching coach for the Vancouver Canadians.   He pitched in 86 games for the Padres in 1986 is still the single season record for the Padres.  He pitched in the postseason for both the Padres and the Giants, getting to the World Series both time, but having his teams lose. David Paul Leiper is 5 years younger than I am and Wikipedia doesn't say anything about what he is doing now.  Leiper pitched for the Padres for two and a half seasons after coming over from the A's in a trade for Storm Davis. I got this card signed through the mail back in the 1990s'.

Glasses and Fu Manchu

Mark Linden Lee pitched for four years in the major leagues from 1978-1981.  He may have worn the most stylish pair of glasses ever in the major leagues. 
He was traded to the Pirates along with Kurt Bevacqua for Rick Lancelotti and Luis Salazar.  Bevacqua and Salazar had to be two of the most traveled Padres as they both were traded away and then traded for a couple of times. I bought the card on line. Joseph Henry Lefebvre played 6 years in the majors, starting with the Yankees for a year, then playing for 2.5 seasons in San Diego before being traded to the Phillies for Sid Monge.  Lefebrve finished his career in Philadelphia, where he made it to the World Series in 1983.  I think I got the card signed through the mail

His father is his brother

Derrek Leon Lee was drafted by the Padres in 1993 and made his major league debut with the Padres in 1997.  After one year he went to Florida for several years before being traded to the Cubs.  He has played first base for the Cubs since 2004.  I got this signed card off of eBay.  Leron Lee is the uncle of Derrek Lee, he played for the Padres from 1971-1973.  Later in his career he went to Japan and played from 1977-1987, where he was one of the first Americans to play for that long.  I got the 1974 Padres card signed through the mail.

Lawrence and LeBlanc

Brian Michael Lawrence was drafted by the Padres in 1998 and is still playing professional baseball this year.  He played for the Padres from 2001-2005 and then was traded to the Nationals for Vinny Castilla, he never played for the Nats because of injuries.  He pitched for the Mets in 2007 and has been in the Marlins organization for the last two years and is pitching at AAA New Orleans this year.   I got this signed through the mail a couple of years ago.  Wade Matthew Le.Blanc is part of the starting rotation for the surprising Padres of 2010, he is 2-2 so far this year.  I got this signed through the mail during Spring Training of 2009.

Trades with Benny and Chris

First up is actually not  a trade but winnings from BA Bennys' Buffet spelling contest.  I asked for the Logan Forsythe F, some Padres, and Mariners and Pirates for my friends, Marv and Tom. And Benny came through big time, and it was a fun contest spelling with his patch cards. 












I sent reader Chris a Tyler Colvin on patch autograph and he sent some cool stuff back.  I like the Tony Gwynn card cause it reminds me that I now have autographs of all three Gwynns who played for the Padres.  I wish I could find some way to get Chip Ambres to sign this card and all the other guys I still need.  The Mark Davis was a insert in Bowman years ago and their was a contest on the back to win prints of the card.  Somewhere amongst all my stuff is a print of this card that I got in an auction last year.  I have never seen these two Greene cards before, hope Khalil can make it back.  I know Chris Young is tall but it never really struck til I saw him next to Trevor Hoffman, Trevor is 6'4", Young is really tall.  Matt Antonelli has a really great blog and especially if you are into mini basketball.  The Dave Roberts card comes from one of my favorite sets, Topps Total, I wish they would bring this set  back.  I hate cards with players in one uniform and another teams logo on it.

Custom Cardboard Contest

A Decade between their Debuts.

Gregory Mark LaRocca played three seasons in the majors after being drafted by the Padres.  He played in 2000 for San Diego and '02 and '03 for the Indians and since then he has played for three teams in Japan. I got this signed through the mail.  Mathew A. Latos drafted by the Padres in 2006 and made his major league debut in 2009 and is part of the starting rotation for the Padres this year. I just noticed that Topps got Mats' name wrong on his Bowman Chrome card.   I got Mat to sign this through the mail, I have since found out that Mat is a good artist so I sent him a sketch card to draw on.
