Unboxing Day 10, 2023 Bowman

I did manage to get four Padres out of the box.  3 I had heard of and 1 was new to me.
Some inserts, 1 I had heard of and the other two I hadn't.  That is a pattern in Bowman products.
Top 100 inserts, #81 and #89, hadn't heard of either of these guys

Wonder if any of these guys will ever make it to majors or even the Hall of Fame.

Unboxing Day 9, 2023 Topps Series 2

Topps 2023 Series 2, nothing really to say.  So I will get out of the way and share pictures with you.
I have a soft spot for the Fathers' Day stuff MLB does.  I have a Fathers Day Padres hat.
Four new cards for my City Connect mini collection.
I got three Padres from the blaster.

I got an All Star and a Hall of Famer and a guy I have never heard of as inserts.
Three different levels of inserts

I got a bunch of All-Stars.

Up Next 2023 Bowman

Unboxing Day 8, 2023 Topps Big League

I remember when this set first came out.  I remember it reminded me of the Topps of old, just cards of players and not a lot of inserts and parallels.  It has come a long way since then and not necessarily for the better.  I am just going to show the inserts and parallels that I got.
Inserts of two legendary players who have impacted the game.
I have never been much of a home video game guy, so these mean nothing to me.  The only video game I like to play at the arcade is Centipede.

These inserts have motivated me to start a mini collection of players in their city connect uniforms.  I ordered a complete set of the city slickers from ebay.  I will see how many cards I can get of each team.
Send me your extra city connect cards.
I am also going to start a mini collection of the Padres mascot.  Let's see how many different cards I can find of the Swinging Friar and the San Diego Chicken.
This set doesn't do much for me either.  I realize Ichiro only has one name he is known by.  It would have made more sense to put the players first name on the insert.
That's it for the inserts now for the parallels.  I got one blue foil parallel.  I have become a Bobby Witt Jr. magnet.  I seem to get him in every box.

I got four of the orange parallels with one of them being foil.

Got 10 of the silver parallel.  Nothing exciting here.
That concludes this box.

Up next 2023 Topps 2.

Unboxing day 7, 2022 Topps Chrome Platinum

These are some nice cards.  I was surprised how well the 1953 design looked meshed with Chrome.  Topps started off with great collation.

First pack one right after the other.
These two are numbered, Anderson is out of 10 and Park is out of 199.
These three are all unnumbered parallels.

I got a very nice selection of retired players and Hall of Famers.

I really do like these cards.  Got a nice selection of active players and of my favorite Padres from a couple of years ago.

2022 Stadium Club Chrome box

The box that I got in trade for the Shoei Ohtani, was meant for a Dodger fan.  It only had one Padres card in it.  It was Joe Musgrove right after his no-hitter.

Here are the cards I got:

A couple of inserts

A few Hall of Famers

Stadium Club has always had great photography, I like the immediacy of the Joe Musgrove card and the intimacy of the Keith Hernandez card.
This is my favorite card of the pack. I love the expressions on the faces of these two greats of the game.

Ohtani traded for Gwynn (and more)

You may remember that I pulled this fine card from one of the blaster boxes that I received for Christmas.  It was part of a Topps buy back program where I could take it to a local card shop and get $100 in store trade for it.  So on January 6, 2024 my granddaughter and I took the 1/2 trip to Hoody's Collectibles in Beaverton.  It seems further away than it really is because of the freeways, the rivers you cross and the socio-economic borders you cross going from where we live to where they are.

I walked in and handed them the card and they said you can get $100 worth of stuff. So I got all this. A blaster of 2022 Stadium Club Chrome, a Tony Gwynn card, a pack of 2022 Topps Chrome (I think), two packs of 1990 Donruss, a pack of 1982 Fleer, a pack of Cosmic Chrome, two packs of Bowman Platinum Chrome and two packs of dividers so I can sort cards to send out to you guys.

I opened the 1982 Fleer pack first.  I had to use my knife to open it because it was sealed so tightly.
These are the best four cards I got in the pack.  Shooty Babitt because it's a great name and Champ Summers because he was at one time a Padre.  Is anyone building the 1982 Fleer set?

Next was the 2023 Topps Chrome Cosmic.  I had never seen any packs of this before.  Vaguely remember hearing of it.
Pretty funky design.  I got a former Padre and three guys I hadn't heard of before.  Claim your cards now.  I am keeping a list of all the request and will be mailing stuff out when I get through all the boxes.

Then there were two packs of 2023 Bowman Platinum Chrome.

I hadn't heard of these guys before.  But at least I got one of the soon to be Padres in the second pack, I got Drew Thorpe who came to San Diego in the Juan Soto trade.

Then I opened this 2022 Topps Baseball pack.  I got two Hall of Famers both Padres.  This is a pretty cool pack.

These are the best cards of the two packs of the 1990 Donruss.

Tony Gwynn Focus Pocus.  I am constantly amazed at Tony's stats.

All that is left is the box of 2022 Stadium Club Chrome.

I will be sharing that box in the next post.
