A bunch of new Padrographs takes me up 1025

This week I received some customs back and some cards I purchased from ebay.  This batch brings me to 1025 unique Padrographs.

Cory Burns pitched in 17 games for the Padres in 2012.  This is a custom that I made and got signed through an autograph dealer.

Jarred Cosart pitched in nine games for the Padres in 2016.  He is on the roster at this point in Spring Training.  He has been in the majors since 2013 and has played for the Astro's and Marlins.  I picked this up on Ebay.

Reggie Lawson was drafted by the Padres in the second round of the 2016 draft.  He is only nineteen years old so it will probably be a few years before we see him at Petco Park. This is a 2016 Bowman I found on Ebay.

Justin Leone played in one game for the Padres in 2006, he had one plate appearance and one at bat.  He played in 2004 for the Mariners.  This is a custom that I made and got signed through an autograph dealer.

Scott Patterson pitched in three games for the Padres in 2008 and one game for the Yankees that year.  He has no wins and no losses in his major league career, and has 1.93 ERA. Another custom that I got signed.

Pete Coscarart played for the Padres from 1946 to 1949.  He played for the Dodgers and Pirates from 1938 to 1946.  I picked this up through an autograph dealer.

Ryan Schimpf was a 28 year old rookie last year who played in 89 games for the Padres last year.  He was named to the Topps All Rookie Team and is due to be playing for the Padres again this year.  2017 Topps Heritage that I got from Ebay.

Mason Thompson was drafted by the Padres in the third round of the 2016 draft.  He just turned nineteen in February so it will be a few years before we see him on a major league mound.  This is a 2016 Bowman that I found on Ebay.

Ron Tingley played in eight games for the Padres in 1982, he didn't return to the majors until 1988.  He played eight more years in the majors with Cleveland, California, Florida, the White Sox and Detroit.  This is a custom that I got signed through an autograph dealer.

Xavier Rescigno, played for the Padres in 1948 after he previously played for the Pirates from 1943-1945.

Padrograph #1016

Padrograph #1016 is Jon Matthews, who is new to the Padres this year.  He will specialize in training the outfielders.  He comes from the Diamondbacks where was a minor league hitting coach.  He also was a coach at Indian Hills Community College in Centerville, Iowa where he also taught economics.  I sent this to him at Spring Training and it took about a week and a half.  The post office takes the mail to San Diego and then I guess the team takes it to Peoria.   I also sent cards to Coaches Johnny Washington and Alan Zinter and players Jered Weaver, Trevor Cahill and Michael Kelly.  So far I have a 16% return rate on this batch.  I will send some of the actual Heritage cards once all the rosters are set.

Padrograph #1014 and reppin the 2017 Padres

I have two parts of my collection of Padrographs.  One part is a signed card of as many players, coaches and people associated with the Padres as possible.  The other part is a signed card for every year that the Padres have been a major league team.  Each of these cards fills in spots in both of those collections.

Cesar Vargas is Padrograph #1014, Cesar pitched in 7 games for the Padres in 2016.  On March 6, 2017 he was optioned to AAA El Paso.

Colin Rea is Padrograph #960, but this card will fill the spot in the one card of each year.  Colin is the 2017 representative in a collection that spans from Ollie Brown to Colin Rea.

The Reading List February 2017

The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead.  Set during the civil war it follows the adventure of a couple of slaves attempting to escape slavery.  Told through chapters from different characters point of views.  Okay I like my stories told more linearly.
The House of Secrets by Brad Meltzer & Tod Goldberg.   Two children of a famed television host are involved in an accident with their father.  It puts them in an unexpected position and brings some things from the past into the present.  A bit of mystery, espionage, American covert history and an unusual avocation.

The Wonderous Science, Book 1 Mysteries of the Laurel Society by Brian & Josie Parker.  This is a book I backed on Kickstarter and I know the authors.  It is a young adult book in which the characters are a diverse bunch of youths.  It is a story of science and magic and the effects they have on each other.  It was a fun read and I look forward to the sequel.
What Grieving People Wish You Knew about what really helps (and what really hurts)by Nancy Guthrie.  It is sometimes difficult to know what to say to someone is grieving, Nancy Guthrie know first hand what it means to grieve from personal experience.  Through her own experience and others she shares anecdotes that show both the good and the bad.
The Sons of Slabtown & Tales of Westside Sports by Donald R. Nelson.  This is the story several young men who played baseball together from elementary school through high school.  A few of them played in the minor leagues, a couple of them made it to the majors and one of them became a Red Sox icon.  Johnny Pesky is the central figure of this story.  It is about a neighborhood in Northwest Portland.  I have met Johnnys' brother and a few others mentioned in the book.

one year through the mail

padrograph #1011, I sent this to Mr. McGwire last year at Spring Training.  I received it in the mail today.  I was really happy to see an envelope that I sent out come back and was really jacked to see that it was Mark McGwire.  I really didn't think that I was going to get this back.  That only leaves one coach that I sent to last year that I didn't  get back, Alan Zinter, the hitting coach.

Luis Perdomo, this is the 2nd Luis Perdomo autograph that I have, but they are from two different players.  This Luis Perdomo pitched in 35 games for the Padres in 2016 and is at Spring Training with them this year.

Oswaldo Arcia, played in 16 games with the Padres last year and is at Spring Training with the Marlins.

This last weekend I received 8 cards in the mail that take me over 1000 Padrographs.  Four of the cards are from 2016 Bowman Draft Picks, 3 came from Ebay and one from a group break.  Four of them are customs that I made and sent to an autograph dealer who got them signed for me.

#997, Cal Quantrill was drafted in the first round in 2016 by the Padres and played in three different places this year.
#998, Hudson Potts was also drafted in the first round in 2016 by the Padres and played for the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Northwest League.
#999, Buddy Reed was drafted in the second round of the draft in 2016 and played in the Northwest League at Tri City.
#1000, Eric Lauer was drafted by the Padres in the first round in 2016 and played at Tri City and Fort Wayne.

#1004, Matt Dewitt pitched for the Padres in 2002.

#994 and somewhere there is an upset Mariners fan

#994, Royce Ring, custom 2007.  Royce pitched in 15 games for the Padres in 2007.

I rejoiced the other day because a card I sent out during the year arrived at my house, I was looking at Brandon Maurer  autograph.  Then I realized it was a Mariners card, I had sent him a Padres card but he returned a M's card.  Somewhere there is a Mariners fan with a Padres card that he has never seen.

#991, #992, #993 and an upgrade

Javier Guerra, #991, Javier came into the Padres system this year.  He spent the previous three years in the Red Sox system.
Odrisamer Despaigne, update, I update from a Panini logoless card. Odrisamer was traded to the Orioles before this season.
Fernando Rodney, #992. Fernando was traded to the Marlins partway through the 2016 season.
Paul Menhart, #993.  Paul pitched in 9 games for the Padres in 1997. He spent a season with the Blue Jays and Mariners before coming to San Diego.

I was hoping to get to 1000 cards this season, I still have time until the end of the World Series.  There are still several cards out in the mail that I sent out throughout the season.

Padrographs #989 and #990

I realize that I have been gone a long time from the blogosphere.  I still make it a point to read many of your blogs every day.  The Padres haven't done much to get me excited this season and Topps just keeps using the same guys on autographed cards.  I would like to see them use more guys with fewer autographs per guy.  I don't think I will  make it to 1,000 Padrographs this season, but I will be close enough to make it early next season. Here a couple that have gotten me closer.

Dusty Allen, Dusty played in 9 games for the Padres in 2000.  This was the only picture I could find of him anywhere and made the custom and got the card signed through an autograph dealer.

Brett Wallace, Brett has played in 170 games for the Padres last year and this year and seems to be an important utility player for them.  I picked this up on ebay.

two more Padrograph customs

Joe Roa, Joe pitched in 18 games for the Padres in 2003.  I used the Heritage design from 2003.
Carlos Baerga, I watched Carlos play his way up through the Padres system from 1985-1989 and thought he was going to be the Padres third baseman for years to come but then he got traded to the Indians.  This is a card that should have been.
These are Padrographs #987 and #988.
