The Player: Anthony Keith Gwynn
The Card: 1987 Fleer, #416
How I obtained the Auto: My Day with Boggs and Gwynn. From 1990-1995 I worked at Baseball Cards and More in Portland, Oregon. We did many shows all over the area. One show was held at the Memorial Coliseum. One of the autograph guest was Tony Gwynn. The promoter knew I was a fan and asked if I would sit with Tony for two hours and pass the items from the fan to Tony. So I did, I showed he and his agent, Johnny Boggs, all the cards I had at the time. There were a few serial numbered cards that they had not seen before. It was an enjoyable two hours. I got this card signed that day. Johnny Boggs is Wade's cousin. Some where I have autographed pictures of me with each of them.
About Tony Gwynn: Tony was drafted in the third round of the 1981 draft. He made his major league debut in July of 1982. He was an All Star fifteen times, won five Gold Gloves, seven Silver Slugger awards and won the National League Batting Title eight times. He retired in 2001 and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2007. Major League Baseball named the National League Batting Title the Tony Gwynn National League Batting Champion. There are portions of a freeway in San Diego named for him. I last saw him in 2013 at a reunion of the 1998 World Series team. He passed away on June 16, 2014.
Between: Chris Gwynn and Tony Gwynn Jr.
Up next: Night Owl picks #928, Greg Page
Contest will continue. I will choose another secret Padrograph in the next couple of days.

That is an awesome story! Also, email sent - thanks!
Way to go Matt! I'll pick #150
Ill go with 429
Congrats, Matt!
I'll go with 159 for today.
Also since I don't have a card blog, I'll post here what I just bought tonight with my winnings. Fittingly, it's an autograph card. I had been holding out since the original COMC list price was $57 or so, but was relisted as a COMC eBay auction. I picked it up for $44 less so still have a bit more to spend.

P.s. Hopefully eventually the tariff nonsense will stop so that I can actually ship the card and have it hand. (Not trying to start any fights, just the 44% on COMC shipments hurts)
Holy moly. That is so awesome that you got to sit with Gwynn for two hours. My students are making their team trading cards for a group project and I'm always included as part of the team. One of their tasks is that have to interview me... in an effort to get to know me. Last week a group asked me if I could have dinner with any famous person (living or deceased) who would I pick. I said Jackie Robinson. Not sure when I'll get asked that question again (if ever). But I think I'll go with Gwynn.
Wow! Can't imagine sitting next to that legend! What an experience!
I will go with #667 (yes hand motion for 67 so I can be one of the cool kids)
