My Musicards #6

Glenn Campbell may not be familiar to the younger readers (if there are any)  of the blog.  He was very popular in the late sixties and seventies.  He had many hits and hosted The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour on TV.  He co-starred with John Wayne in True Grit.  Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone made a terrible movie based on his hit Rhinestone Cowboy.  He was the voice of Chanticleer in the animated movie Rock-A-Doodle. He was a member of the Wrecking Crew which backed up musicians or replaced bands on records. He went on tour with The Beach Boys replacing Brian Wilson for awhile.  He passed away from complications of Alzheimers in 2017.  I have two or three of his lp's in my collection.

Remember those "Hooked On Phonics" ads? Well, I was listening to the New York oldies station many years ago, and they played one of those ads. At the end, the DJ, the very funny (and very knowledgeable) Bob Shannon) came on and sang...

"By the time I get to phonics, she'll be reading!"

My mom was a big fan of Glen Campbell. I never realized he was an actor too.
