Plus 1=1340

Well I added a card to my Padrographs collection.  Reginald Preciado signed by the Padres in 2019, he played in instructional ball for the Padres but was traded to the Cubs for Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini.  He is currently ranked 11th among Cubs prospects, played at A+ last year.

In other news I took my 1965 Philadelphia Football set, 1965 Topps football (almost completed set) and 1969 Topps football set to Hoody's Collectibles in Beaverton, OR.  I was able to get a bunch of stuff in trade.  I will be opening it in the next week or so.  I also got some cash.  I am trying to divest myself of stuff.  I got too much for my corner of the house.  My wife is a tailor and says all her stuff fits in two boxes.  I told her she had to quit calling our house and the neighbors houses boxes.  So I get a corner of the laundry room.
Here is what I picked up in trade.

Plus 5=1339

Since Bowman Chrome came out I managed to pick up 5 signed cards of prospects.
Ismael Javier-is a 20 year old from the Dominican Republic who was signed as an amateur free agent in 2022. He plays second.
Jhoan De La Cruz is a 17 year old Domician who was signed as a free agent this year. De La Cruz is a shortstop.
Henry Baez is a 22 year old pitcher from the Dominican Republic who was signed as a free agent in 2019.
Kai Roberts is a 20 year old outfielder who was drafted in the seventh round in 2024 from Orem, Utah. His Dad played in the Cardinals system in 1996.
Kale Fountain is a 20 year old third baseman from Nebraska who was drafted in the fifth round in 2024.

That brings me to a total of 1,339 different Padres autographs.

Thanks for stopping by.

Custom cards, Series 1, page 6

Phil Mudrock-pitched in one game for the Cubs in 1963, pitching in 1 inning.  He came into the game in the 8th inning in relief and gave up a lead off hit to Jim Davenport and then an RBI double to Willie McCovey.  Both he and Giants pitcher Juan Marichal were called for balks in this game.  He has a career ERA of 9.00 from that one inning.
Kurt Seibert-got 2 AB in 7 games for the Cubs in 1979.  He got no hits but did score 2 runs.  His MLB batting average is .000
Steve Davis-played in 3 games for the Cubs in 1979.  In his first at bat he grounded out but Dave Kingman scored on the play getting Steve's only RBI in his major league career.
Rick James-no not that Rick James, started one game for the Cubs in 1967 and pitched in relief in two others. His start came on the last day of the '67 season and he gave up a home run to Vada Pinson, racking up 7 earned runs and nine hits in 3 innings.
Joe Campbell-was chosen in the Rule 5 draft in 1967 from the Mets.  He missed most of spring training that year because of his obligation to the Marine Corps.  He played in one game against the Braves on May 3, 1967.  After that one game for the Cubs he was returned to the Mets and never returned to the Majors.
Mike Johnson-pitched in 18 games for the Padres in 1974 finishing 10 of them.  His major league ERA is 4.64 in 21.1 innings.  I have made more copies of this card than any other.  Mike works for a pest control company in Arizona and uses them for calling cards.  A couple of years ago he was inducted into his high schools hall of fame and requested extras to hand out.  About every two months he asks for 45 more cards.  I figure that I have printed over 600 copies of this card.  I have a variation of this card signed in my Padrographs collection.  My favorite part of this card is the Gremlin billboard outside Wrigley Field.
Bob Giggie-pitched in 30 games for the Braves and A's from 1959-1962 but never had a Topps card.  He did have some team issued cards with the Braves. He retired after the 1962 season.
Manny Mota-is best known as a Pirate and Dodger but he was signed as an amateur free agent by the Giants in 1957.  He made his made his major league debut in April of 1962.  After the '62 season he was traded to the Astros, but before playing for them he was traded to the Pirates.
Ramon Conde-appeared in 14 games for the White Sox in 1962, getting no hits but did get three walks and an RBI.

The coaches, page 1

I have filed all my Padrograph coaches card alphabetically by last name, except for the first card.

I sent this 1985 Mothers Cookie card to each of the coachesel individually, always fearing that it was not going to come back, but it did each time.  I don't remember what order I got the signatures in.  Checking on all those coaches I found that Galen Cisco is the only one of them still alive and he is 89 years old.
Darrel Akerfelds-was the Padres bullpen coach from 2001-2012.  The Padres had one of his jerseys in the bullpen after he passed from cancer in 2012.
Sandy Alomar, Sr.- managed both of his sons in the minor leagues and was the Padres third base coach from 1986-1990.  He coached while both sons were with the Padres.  My sons and I met him after a game in Eugene when he was a roving instructor in the Cubs organization.
Joe Amalfitano-was a coach for the Padres in 1976-1977.  I got this 1977 Padres schedule card signed through the mail.  He retired from baseball in 2021 just before his 87th birthday.
Sparky Anderson-coached for the Padres in their first season as a major league team in 1969.  He eventually beat the Padres in their first trip to the World Series in 1984, leading the Tigers to a 4-1 victory.  I bought the cut card and made the card.  I did a terrible job on the photo.
Griffin Benedict-played in the Padres minor league system for two years and then became their bullpen catcher.  He is the son of former major league catcher Bruce Benedict.  Another custom, if you couldn't tell.
Dave Bialas-was a coach for the Padres in 1993.  He is currently managing a short season team for the Yankees in Staten Island.
Jack Bloomfield-was a scout for the Padres from 1969-1973 and then became a coach under John McNamara for the 1974 season.
Tarrick Brock- is a former major league who played for the Cubs in 2000.  He was the Padres first base coach in 2016.  He has been the Pirates first base coach since 2020.

We will know the outcome of the Padres wild card series by Friday.  I hope they get hot tomorrow and Thursday.

Minus 1

With this card I only need two more cards for my 1965 set build.  Another Raider and a Jets Rookie card.  Ben Davidson doesn't look like the Ben Davidson I remember.  Looking at his 1966 card he has started to resemble the fierce player I remember.  The Raiders were the first football team I remember rooting for.  Guys like Ray Guy, Daryle Lamonica, Fred Biletnikoff, John Matuzak, Lyle Alzado, Jim Otto and George Blanda.

The only two cards remaining for the set build are Biletnikoff and Namath.  After a few attempts at trying to bid on a few, the prices are way out of my price range.

Custom cards, series 1 page 5

Jim Marshall-played in the majors from 1958-1962.  He finished his career in 1962 splitting time between the Mets and Pirates.  He played in 55 games for the Pirates.
Steve Christmas- played 3 games for the Cubs in 1986.
Tony Balsamo-his only year in the majors was 1962 when he appeared in 18 games for the Cubs.
Hugh Yancy-played for the White Sox every other year starting in 1972 til 1974.  He played in seven games over the years.
Dick Burwell-pitched in 5 games for the Cubs in 1960 and 1961.
Paul Dicken-played in 11 games for the Indians in 1964 and 2 games in 1966.
Mike Sember-played in 3 games for the Cubs in 1977 and 9 games in 1978
Dennis DeBarr-pitched in 13 games for the Jays in 1977 going 0-1
Steve Bowling-in 103 games for the Brewers and Jays inn 1976 and 1977.

Padrographs, The Managers Page 3

Rod Barajas-managed eight games for the Padres, going 1-7, after the team fired Andy Green at the end of the 2019 season.
Jayce Tingler-managed the Padres in the COVID shortened 2020 season and in 2021. He was 116-106 in his two seasons before he was fired.
Ryan Christensen-managed the Padres for a few games when Bob Melvin had prostate surgery.
Bob Melvin-BoMel managed the Padres in 2022 & 2023 to a 171-153 record.
Mike Shildt-has taken the Padres to the playoffs the last two years.  I am hoping they go further this year than last year.

All of these are custom cards that I got signed through the mail.

Minus 3, Plus 1

With the arrival of these three cards I am down to needing just three more cards for my 1965 Topps football set.  I am down to two Raiders, Ben Davidson and Fred Biletnikoff.  I won the Davidson the other day so it on its way.  The last card I will need and don't anticipate ever getting is the Joe Namath rookie.

I picked up this Michael King card from ebay.  It brings my Padrographs count to 1,334.   Those are each distinct cards and signatures.  I think that Bruce Bochy may be the only duplicate as I have him as manager and player.

I missed a weeks worth of posts because I was getting a new computer and they had the old one also to get everything off it.

I reached out to Tom over at Angels in Order and he is fine.  He said he thought it was time to pull the plug on the blog.

No New Cards and a Question

I didn't pick up any new cards this week, but I did get a $100 ebay gift card for my birthday yesterday, so there will be some new cards soon.

My question is does anyone know what is going on with Tom over at Angels in Order?  When I try to access it it says it has been removed and is not available.  Anyone heard from Tom lately?

Thanks for stopping by.

Vacation and customs, page 4

This week my wife and I have been on vacation in Riddle, Oregon.  We are staying in a tiny house of 800 square feet.  Hanging on the wall are some custom cards I made for the owners of their dogs and horses.

Tom Harrison pitched in one game for the Kansas City Athletics in 1965.  He  pitched one inning and has career ERA of 9
Jay Franklin pitched in 3 games for the Padres in 1971 and finished with a career ERA of 6.35
Larry Yount credited with pitching in a MLB without ever facing a batter.  He hurt his elbow during his warmup pitches and was pulled from the game and never returned to the majors.
John Young played in two games for the Tigers in 1971, he got 2 hits, scored a run and is credited with an RBI.  He finished with a .500 BA
Herb Hutson pitched in 20 games for the Cubs in 1974.  He pitched 28.2 innings and finished with a 3.45 ERA
Willie Prall went 14.2 innings in the 3 games he pitched in 1975 for the Cubs.  He finished with an ERA of 8.59
Manny Seoane played in 1977 with Philly for 2 games and 7 games for the Cubs in 1978.  He pitched in 14.1 innings for the two teams and finished with a 5.65 ERA.  In 1982 he and another former MLB pitcher were charged with kidnapping and robbing two of the other pitchers cousins.  They each got 7 years of probation after pleading no contest.  The things you find researching for the back of cards.
Herman Segelke pitched in 4.1 innings in 3 games for the Cubbies in 1982.
Tom Grant appeared in 16 games for the 1983 Cubs.  He had 20 AB and had 3 hits and finished with a .150 BA.

Thanks for stopping by.

Padtographs, The Managers page 2

Steve Boros-Boros managed the entire 86 season.  He  managed the A's in 83-84.  He went 74-88 with the Padres in 86 and never managed in the majors again.  This is probably one of the first cards I got signed TTM, since I tried to get the 86 team set signed.
Larry Bowa-managed all of 87 and  46 games into the 88 season.  When he was replaced in 88 the Padres were 16-30, he finished his time with San Diego with a record of 81-127.  I got this card TTM.
Jack McKeon-McKeon was the general manager when he replaced Bowa 46 games into the 88 season.  He managed the team into 1990 but replaced himself with Greg Riddoch during the 1990 season.  His record in San Diego was 193-164.  I got this signed TTM.
Greg Riddoch-managed 82 in 1990, the complete 1991 season and 150 games in 1992. His  record was  200-194. I got this signed TTM.
Jim Riggleman-Jim managed 12 games in '92, the complelete '93 season and 117 games in '94.  He finished his career in San Diego with a record of 112-179.  Another card I got signed TTM.
Bruce Bochy-Boch is the longest tenured Padres manager, managing them for 12 years from 1995-2006.  He will be the second Padres manager inducted into the Hall of Fame.  His record with the Padres was 951-971.  I think I got this signed in person when Boch was a player coach with the Las Vegas Stars.
Bud Black-Bud managed the Padres for 9 years for 2007-2015.
His record with the Padres was 649-713.  I got this signed TTM
Pat Murphy-Murph managed the Padres for 96 games after Bud Black was fired in 2015.  His record with the Padres was 42-54.  This is a custom card I made that I got signed TTM.
Andy Green-Green magaged the Padres from 2016-2019.  He managed all but 8 games in 2019.  His record with the Padres was 274-366.  This is another custom card that I got signed TTM.

Minus One, plus one

I received this Ralph Baker card this past week which takes me down to just needing 8 cards to complete the 1965 Topps Football set.

Tanner Scott pitched last season for the Padres and signed up as a free agent with the Dodgers this season.  That gives me 1,333 Padrographs.

Padrographs, the managers, page 1

The Padres have had several managers since their inception as a Major League team in 1969.
Preston Gomez- Preston managed from the very first game in 1969 until 1972.  He was replaced 11 games into the season.  His record with the Padres was 180-316.  I got this card on ebay.
Don Zimmer- Zim replaced Gomez 11 games into the 1972 season. He managed the rest of 1972 and all of 73 finishing his time as the Padres manager with a record of 114-190.  He and most of his coaches were dismissed when Ray Kroc bought the team. I got this card TTM.
John McNamara- managed all of 1974, 75,76 and 48 games into 1977 before being fired because the Padres had a 20-28 record.  He finished with a record of 224-310.  I think I got this card on Ebay.
Bob Skinner-lost no games as the manager of the Padres.  He managed one game in 1977.  I got this 1977 schedule card signed through the mail.
Alvin Dark-After McNamara was fired and Skinner managed one game Alvin Dark was hired and managed the rest of the season going 48-65.  I got this card signed through the mail.
Roger Craig-during 1978 Spring Training Alvin Dark was fired just two weeks before the start of the season Craig was hired to manage the team.  He managed in 1978-79, his record was 152-171.  I got this schedule card signed through the mail.
Jerry Coleman-The Colonel came out of the Padres broadcast booth to manage the team in 1980.  He managed the team to a record of 73-89 before returing to the booth to hang a star on it.  I got this signed through the mail.
Frank Howard-managed both halves of the 1981 season and the Padres were 41-69.  I got this card signed through the mail.
Dick Williams-managed the Padres from 1982 through 1986.  He took the team to the NL pennant and their first World Series in 1984. His record with the Padres  was 337-311, and a World Series loss.  I got this signed through the mail.

Weekly update

No new Padrographs or 1965 Topps football cards this week.  I keep getting outbid on the 65 topps football cards.  I need to just get one at a time and not to keep trying for multiples at this time.

I have been working on a set of cards of all fifty governors of the United States.  The fronts are all done and the backs are halfway done.  Once I get them all done I want to see how how many governors have changed since I did this in 2019.

I started with the two states I have lived in and proceeded alphabetically.  5 of the above governors are the same as in 2019.

6 of the above are the same.

3 of the above are the same.

3 of the above are the same.

5 of the above are the same.
2 of the governors above are the same as in 2019.

Once I get the backs done I will share them.  At some point I want to do a comparsion of the 2019 set and this one.  When I get them completed I will again send them out and try and get them signed. In 2019 50% of the Governors signed them.  To me it is a nice piece of history.  If I keep to this schedule I will do another set in 2031.

Thank you for stopping by.

Custom cards, series 1, page 2

It's a whole page of Minnesota Twins, Cards as I See Them, see anything of note.

Steve Barber-pitched in 22 games for the Twins in 1970-1971.  He had a record of 1-0 and an ERA of 5.08.

Padrographs, Front Office and others, Part 2

Kevin Towers-I first met Kevin when he pitched in the Padres minor league system.  I talked with him and he had gone to school with some of my cousins in his hometown of Medford, Oregon.  I got this card signed when he was in the minors.  He was the general manager of the Padres from 1995-2009.  He worked with several other teams.
He passed away from cancer in 2016.
Tony Hawk- I got this off of ebay.  Skateboard icon Tony Hawk is from San Diego and threw out the first pitch.
Johnny Manziel-The Padres used the 837th pick in the 2014 draft to pick him.  He never played an inning and Topps decided to make a card.  I picked this off on ebay.
Agnes McKee- Agnes was 105 years old when she threw out the first pitch in 2014.  I found an article about her that mentioned where she lived and I sent her cards there and asked her to return one signed.  She obliged and this is that card.
Don Orsillo-Don is the play by play announcer for the Padres.  This is half of a bigger card that had Mark Grant on the other half.  I have one of the whole card signed by both of them.  I am not sure where that card is.
The Chicken-The Godfather of all sports mascots.  This card was not signed in '83.  I got it signed after a Portland Beavers game in the '90's.  I asked him to sign his real name but he said that would be like asking Santa to sign Fred.   Ted did sign his real name on a photo another time.
The Swingin Friar-This signed card was pulled from a pack.  I purchased it on Ebay.

Next time, I will start on signed Manager cards.

Plus one and minus one

I added a Padrograph this week and subtracted one more card from my 1965 Topps want list.  I started a new custom card project this week, which I will share with you when I get the fronts done. It is a fifty card set.  Any guesses?

I added this 2025 Topps of Dylan Cease celebrating his no hitter.  I got it on Ebay.  I wish he would be a little more consistent this year.  I will revel in the fact, that as on this moment, the Padres are leading the National League West.

With the arrival of Johnny Robinson I need just nine cards to finish the 1965 Topps Football set.  He played his entire career for the Texans/Chiefs, played in the first ever Super Bowl and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

Thanks for stopping by.

Custom Cards, Series 1, page 1

Back in 2015 I saw that an autograph dealer had a signing with Leon Everitt, who had pitched for the Padres in 1969 but never had a card with them.  We decided that if I made cards for the dealer I would get a free signature and he could do as he liked with the other eight cards.  We also reached terms on cards from other teams.  We are still making cards ten years later as ShoeBox Heroes.

#1 Leon Everitt-Leons' entire major league career consisted of five games for the Padres in 1969.  He passed away in 2016 at the age of 69.
#2 John Sipin-John played in 68 games for the Padres in 1969.  He played in Japan from 1972-80.  Evidently he was a big fan favorite in Japan.  I tried many different addresses to get this signed and never received a reply.  I ended up buying an index card and making a cut signature card.
#3 Van Kelly-played in 111 games for the Padres in 69 & 70.  That was the extent of his major league career.  I used SCN to find his address and sent him cards, I asked him to sign one and keep the others and he did.
#4 Rupe Toppin-pitched in 2 games for the Kansas City Athletics in 1962.  Other than those 2 games he played in the minors from 1960-1969.
#5 Ron Allen-I am not sure why this is a Phillies card.  Ron never made the majors with Philadelphia, he made his major league debut with the Cardinals in 1972.  He played 5 games in 1972 and that was the end of his major league career.  Early on in making the customs the photos came from the autograph dealer, which may be why it is a Phillies card.  Ron is the brother of Dick and Harry Allen.
#6 John Hairston- John played in three games for the Cubs in 1969.  He is the brother of Jerry Hairston, son of Sam Hairston, uncle to Jerry and Scott Hairston.
#7 Vance McHenry- Vance played in 15 games for the '81 Mariners and 3 games for them in '82.  He played in the minors in various systems until 1985.
#8 Clint Compton-Clint pitched in 2 innings for the 1972 Cubs.
#9 Charlie Walters- Charlie pitched in 6.2 innings in 6 games for the Twins in 1969.

1969 fronts were easy to make, it is a just a matter of finding the right colors and fonts.  I used the back of Tom Seavers' '69 card for Leon Everitts, just superimposing things on it.  With John Sipins' card I started building the card backs.  The more I worked with Publisher the easier things became.   The '62, '81 and '72 cards involved an exacto knife and various other tools for the fronts.

Padrographs Owners and Front Office, Part 1

My Padrographs are housed in three binders, from the LCS I used to work at from 90-95.  The first binder starts with owners and other front office personnel.

Ron Fowler-was executive chairman of the Padres and part owner from 2012-2020.

Erik Greupner- is currently the CEO of the Padres and has been with the team since 2010.

Jeff Moorad-has owned part of the Diamondbacks and the Padres.  He is currently a sports agent.

John Moores-was the owner of the Padres from 1994-2003, when a divorce necessitated the sale of the team.

Peter Seidler-was the owner of the Padres from 2012 til his death in 2023.  He was much loved in San Diego and authorized spending that brought the superstar talent to the team.

Sandy Alderson-CEO of the Padres from 2005-2009.  I put the Chesty Puller stamp on the card to commerate Aldersons' time in the Marine Corps and he served in Vietman.

Buzzie Bavasi-was the president and a minority of the Padres when they became a major league team.  He left the team in 1977 to work with the singing cowboy, Gene Autry and the Angels.

Josh Byrnes-was the GM of the Padres from 2011-2014. He is currently the senior vp of baseball operations for the Dodgers.

Jed Hoyer-was the GM of the Padres in 2010-2011.  He is currently the president of baseball operations for the Chicago Cubs.

Thanks for stopping by.  See you soon.

1462, 1332, 10, 4, and 8

It has been a minute since I last posted but Night Owls' post about the number of bloggers who post once is motivating me to at least try that. I have written 1,462 post since starting in 2008.  Back then I was working 40 hours or more (at a job I loved).  Now I work 25 hours a week for a friend, I like my job but oh boy some of the people.  Looking forward to school starting in two weeks.  I will try and stop in regularly from here on out.

With the addition of two Padres autographs from 2025 I now have 1,332 different padres signatures.

Sean Reynolds has pitched in 18 games for the Padres this year in relief.  He is currently pitching at El Paso.

Brandon Lockridge played in 47 games for the Padres this year before being traded at the deadline to Milwaukee for Nestor Cortes.

I only have ten cards left to finish my 1965 Topps football set.  The remaining cards are Willie Brown, Len Dawson, Ralph Baker, Winston Hill, Joe Namath, Fred Blitnekoff, Ben Davidson, and three others I am bidding on.  It could be awhile.  This is one of the last cards I received, it has been a long time since I received a card in a screw down.
This is my latest custom card, Shoebox Heroes, Series 2, card # 496.

Tom Wiedenbauer played four games for the Astro's in 1976.  He has been a coach in the Cleveland system since the 80's.

The other when I got the mail I realized that I had a return of a TTM card.  I have mailed any cards out for signatures for at least five years.  When I checked I mailed this card to Mr. Cahill in 2017.  It is a custom I had sent him.  He included an actual 2017 Heritage card with this one.

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully I will see you in a week.  I am trying this Google link things.

New Padrographs

I was searching on eBay and found some Padrographs I didn't have.

Randy Curtis was drafted by the Mets in 1991 and came to the Padres in a trade and then went to the Cleveland system.  He was out of professional baseball by 1998.  He has been President and CEO of ABD baseball for the last 28 years.

Euribiel Angeles was drafted by the Padres in 2018 and was traded to the A's in 2022 as part of the trade that brought Sean Manea to the Padres.  He is currently playing in the Texas League.

Nathan Martorella was drafted by the Padres in 2022 and is now in the Southern League in the Marlins system.  He was part of the trade that brought Luis Arraez to San Diego.

Nerwilian Cedeno was signed by the Padres in 2019 at age 17 in the DR.  He is currently playing A+ for the Ft Wayne Tincaps in the Padres system.
Robby Snelling was drafted by the Padres in 2023, he is currently pitching in the Marlins system as he was also part of the Arraez trade.

Two More Completed Pages & Card Show

Went to a card show at Lloyd Center today.  I was able to bypass many tables because they were Pokemon or slabbed superstars, neither of which interest me.  I was surprised that none of the dealers had any 2025 Heritage.  There were several other tables that I was able to pass by because they had many unsorted 5,000 count boxes and I know I don't have the patience to go through that looking for cards I want.  I did pick up one free card of a minor league player for the Hillsboro Hops named Gavin Logan (guess who I picked it up for).  I dropped off some cards at his house this morning.

I must confess that I have never heard of any these guys.  This team no longer exists.

I have heard of none of these guys either and I used to be a Chargers fan, although these cards came out when I was eight years old and living in Newport, Rhode Island.
I am now at 56% of the set, I have ninety eight of the one hundred seventy six cards.

2025 Heritage a first look

When I got home from a boring cold day at work today, my wife greeted me with a hot bowl of spaghetti and in the mail I received my pre-ordered hobby box of 2025 Heritage.  I immediately opened it while watching The Rookie.

This is what it looked like after I sorted out the teams that I know I can send to you guys. In the bottom row second from the left is a stack of most of the inserts.

This was the first card out of the box.
I got these two historical guys.  One of them is very well known in this part of the country.
It's hard to tell here but these are all chrome versions of the base cards.  Paul Skenes showed up so many times in this box I thought it was meant for Pittsburgh.  Luckily I have a friend here who is a Pirates fan.
Blue borders, no serial numbers on these.

Blue Sparkly versions, no serial numbers here either.

A slightly different color blue sparkly, no serial number.

I did get one serial numbered card, blue chrome.  133/150
Watch for it in the mail Tom

I did get a 1976 Buyback card

These are some of the other inserts.  The Matt Olson relic is the guaranteed relic/autograph in a hobby box.  I was glad to get the Mel Ott he was one of my first baseball heroes when I was a kid.

Hope you enjoyed this look.

Thanks for stopping by.
