Vincente and Mark

Vincente (Diaz) Palacios had a 8 year major league career which ran from 1987-2000.  He played with the Pirates for 5 years, St. Louis for 2 and the Padres for 1.  He seems to have pitched a variety of roles for all the teams he played for.  I got this Keebler card signed through the mail.  Mark Alan Parent is a native Oregonian, and a extremely nice guy.  I remember talking to him multiple times when the Stars would come to Portland.  He had a much longer major league career than I realized, 13 years.  He played with the Padres 5 years, then with Baltimore, the Cubs, Pirates, Phillies, Rangers and Tigers.  He managed the Phillies minor league team the Lakewood Blue Claws to a league championship and is currently a batting coach in the Arizona Fall League.  I got this card signed through the mail, but I have other cards and pictures that I got signed in person.  Maybe I get my Bip Roberts collection done I will collect Mark Parent.

Brad and Mike

Bradley Alan Pounders was one of the harder Padrographs that I have gotten.  Since he never played in the majors, it was difficult to find an address.  I finally discovered one on sportscollectors.net and sent this to Brad and got it back quickly.  He played from 1984-1988 in the Padres organization.  I remember watching him play with Las Vegas against the Beavers.   Michael Timothy Pagliarulo is best known as a member of the Yankees, he played in New York for 5 years, before being traded to the Padres.  He played in San Diego for 2 years in '89 and '90 before signing with the Twins as a free agent.  He also played for the Lions, Rangers and Orioles and now runs the website Dugoutcentral.com .  I got this signed through the mail after several tries.

Aaron and Adys

Aaron Andermom Poreda was drafted by the White Sox in 2007.  In 2009 he was traded along with Clayton Richard, Adam Russell and Dexter Carter to San Diego for Jake Peavey.  I think at this point that the Padres got the better part of the deal.  Aaron spent this season at Portland, so I got to see him pitch a few times.  I got this card signed through the mail.  Adys Portillo was signed by the Padres in 2008 and pitched in the minors in 2009 and 2010.  He will turn 19 in 2 months, so I am guessing that it will be a few years before he arrives in the majors.  I also got this signed through the mail.

Jose Alan Oyervidez signed with the Padres in 2002 and pitched in the organization through 2007 and then pitched in the Astros system in 2008 and since 2009 he has been pitching in the Mexican Leagues.  I got this signed through the mail.  Andrew B. Parrino was drafted in the 26th round of the 2007 draft.  He has worked up to AA San Antonio this year.  I got this card signed through the mail also.

Jeremy and Chris

Jeremy Scott Owens was drafted by the Padres in 1998.  He is still playing professional baseball in an independent league.  He worked his way up to AAA Portland in 2002 and then became a free agent and signed with the Red Sox.  He also played in the Tampa Bay organization, he played through 2009 with the Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League.  I got this card on eBay.   Chris Andrew Oxspring is an Australian pitcher that the Padres signed as a free agent out of an independent league.  He pitched in 5 games for the Padres in 2005 and was a nice guy when he played in Portland.  I got this card signed at a game at PGE Park when he was here.

Robert Dennis Owchinko was drafted by the Padres in 1976 and made his debut in September of that year  He played 4 seasons with the Padres before being traded to the Indians, who then traded him to the Pirates, who traded him to the A's.  He also played for the White Sox and Expos.  I got this card signed through the mail.  Eric Blake Owens shared a locker with Garth Brooks in 1999 and has remained friends with him since, he is the first player to get a hit at Safeco Field.  He played 294 games for the Padres in the middle of his career.  I got this from the local card shop.

Omar and Akinori

Omar Ortiz was drafted in the 1st round in 1999 by the Padres.  He never made it past AA in the Padres organization.  After two years with San Diego he played in the Florida and  Texas organizations.  I believe I  obtained this through the mail.  Akinori Otsuka played 7 years in Japan for Kinetsu and Chunichi, before being signed by the Padres.  He played for two seasons for the Padres before being packaged as part of a trade that brought Adrian Gonzalez, Terrmel Sledge and Chris Young to San Diego.  I obtained this and a couple of other signed cards of him through the mail.

Rey and Jesse

Reynaldo Ordonez Pereira never played for the Padres but was such a big name at the time that he got a card in 2004.  He was beaten out in spring training for the shortstop job by Khalil Greene, who went on to disappear from baseball.  Rey played 7 years with the Mets, 1 year with the Rays and Cubs.  I bought the card on ebay.  Jesse Russell Orosco played 24 seasons in the majors, a third of those years with the Mets.  Jesse pitched in 42 games for the Padres, one of the three teams he played for in 2003, his final season in the majors.  He also played that year for the Yankees and Twins.  I got this signed through the mail.

Benjamin Ambrosio Oglivie never played for the Padres but was a coach for them in 2000.  He played for most of his career for the Brewers, playing 9 seasons there.  He also played for the Red Sox and Tigers.  I have signatures of all the coaches on this card except for Dave Smith, an unpossible autograph.  I got this signed through the mail.  Miguel Arturo Ojeda played in 166 games for the Padres between 2003-2005, he also played 16 games for the Mariners, 25 games for the Rockies and 5 games for the Rangers.  He been played for the Mexico City Red Devils since 2007.  I got this signed through the mail.

Eric and Fred

It has been a busy couple of weeks at work and I haven't been dealing well with the change of seasons, and I don't mean sports.  Although the last day of the regular season was kind of depressing, which didn't help.  My wife says that I suffer from SADD, but now I hope to get back to this on a regular basis.  Eric Carl Nolte was one of the nicest I ever came across in the minor leagues, he gladly signed stuff and talked with those of us who came to visit.  We would go to Civic Stadium when the Las Vegas Stars would come to town.  Eric helped me get several other autographs from teammates that would be not as forthcoming.  He was drafted by the Padres in 1985 and made his major league debut in 1987.  He played for the Padres from '87-'89 and then again in 1991, a season which he split between San Diego and Texas.  I got this card signed in person at Civic Stadium in 1989.  Fredie Hubert Norman was signed by the Kansas City Athletics as an amateur free agent in 1961, he also played for the Cubs, Cardinals, Dodgers, Reds and Expos.  He came to the Padres in 1971 in a trade from the Cardinals with Leron Lee for Al Santorini.  He left the Padres in 1973 to the Reds for Mike Johnson, Gene Locklear and cash.  I got this card from an autograph dealer.

The Nieves Brothers

Melvin (Ramos) Nieves played 127 games over 3 years between 1993 and 1996.  The Braves traded him to the Padres as part of the Fred McGriff deal.  He hit .207 with 17 home runs during his time in San Diego.  He was traded to the Tigers as part of a multi-player deal.  I don't remember how I obtained this signature.  Wilbert Nieves is the brother of Melvin Ramos and just finished a season with the Nationals.  He made his major league debut with the Padres in 2002 and then played in the minors for a couple of years and then reappeared in 2005 with the Yankees for three years, and has been with the Nationals for the last three years.  Again I don't remember how I don't remember how I obtained the signature.

Kevin and Mike

Kevin Nicholson played for Team Canada in the Inaugural World Baseball Classic.  He was drafted by the Padres in 1997 and played 37 games for them in 2000.  He was chosen by the Rockies in the expansion draft, he also played in the Cardinals and Pirates organization, but never made it back to the majors.  I think I got this signed through the mail.  Michael Nicolas is a player I discovered one day when I was surfing eBay for cards.  I can't find anything about him on Wikipedia or baseball-reference.  I bought this on eBay a couple of years ago.

Newfield and Newhan

Marc Alexander Newfield started his career in the great Pacific Northwest with the Marniners.  He was traded to the Padres with Ron Villone for Andy Benes and played 1995-1996 for the Padres, then he and Ron Villone were traded to the Brewers for Greg Vaughn.  I don't remember how I obtained this card. David Matthew Newhan co-writes a blog, Newhan on baseball, along with his father, Ross Newhan.  David played with the Padres in 1999 and 2000.  He then went and played with the Phillies, Orioles, Mets and Astros after the Padres.  I got this card signed through the mail.

Nettles and Nevin

Graig Nettles played in the major leagues from the time I was ten to the time I was 31, that is a long career.  He played for the Twins, Indians, Yankees, Padres, Braves and Expos. He was part of the 1984 World Series team for the Padres and in 4 World Series for the Yankees. He came to the Padres in a trade, because he wrote a book that George Steinbrenner didn't like.  This is one of my earliest Padrographs, I was trying to get the entire 1986 Padres Topps team set signed, I think I was about 5 cards short.  I got it signed through the mail. Phillip Joseph Nevin played the majority of his career in San Diego, 7 of his 12 seasons in the majors.  He played in 806 games between 1999 and 2005, he was a good hitter whom after a rocky start in the majors, did almost anything to stay in the game.  I remember him learning to play multiple positions so that he had more value to a team.  I got Phil to sign the card through the mail.

Neal and Nelson

Blaine Neal was drafted by the Marlins in 1996 and is currently playing for the Camden Riversharks.  He had a 5 season major league career playing with the Fish, the Friars, the Bosox and the Rocks.  He played 40 games for the Padres in 2004 in long relief.  He was traded to Boston for Adam Hyzdu.  This team issued Upper Deck set is the only card I know of him in a San Diego uniform.  Robert Augustus Nelson was drafted by the Astros, Braves and A's, the only one he signed with was the A's.  He played parts of the '86-'87 seasons with the A's before being sent to San Diego as part of a trade for Storm Davis.  He played parts of four seasons in San Diego, traveling between Vegas and San Diego.  I got to see him play several times in Portland, which is where I got him to sign this at a game.  ( I think).

Nady and Nagy

Xavier Clifford Nady was signed by the Padres in 2000 and played one major league game that year before being sent to the minors.  He played in 2001-2002 in the  minors and then played for the Padres from 2003-2005 before being traded to the Mets.  Xavier has moved around a bit since being traded to the Mets, he has played for the Yankees, Pirates and is currently playing for the Cubs.  I got this certified auto at the LCS.  Charles Harrison Nagy played 13 years for the Indians and pitched in 5 games for the Padres.  He made his debut in 1990 and pitched those five games in 2003.  I got this signed card on eBay after 5 failed attempts through the mail.

Myers and Myers

Gregory Richard Myers played a lot longer than I realized.  He started his career in 1987 with Toronto and finished his career in 2005 with the Blue Jays. In between he played with the Twins, Angels, A's, O's, Braves and Padres.  He was granted free agency in 1997 by the Braves and signed with the Padres and in 1999 he was traded to Atlanta.  I got this card signed through the mail. Rodney Luther Myers has a great first name.  He pitched for the Cubs, Padres, and Dodgers. He pitched for the Padres from 2000-2003, and after pitching for the Dodgers for a couple of years he pitched in Japan for a year and then retired.  I got this card signed through the mail also.  There is one other Myers that I wish I had a signed card from, that would be Randy Myers.
