I recently saw that an autograph dealer I knew had gotten some signatures from 1969 Padre Leon Everitt. I had made a card front of Leon awhile back and I shared it with the dealer. I made a back for the card also, utilizing a 1969 card back and overlaying some stuff on it. I sent them off and then they got sent to Leon who signed them and asked for some for himself. So I made 9 more that went to Leon Everitt.
I have made some more that I am going to try and get to other players.

Newly accquired cards and whoe boy did my want list get bigger
The Padres have been more aggressive this off season than any I can remember and we are welcoming all kind of new guys. It will probably be awhile since they have Padres cards and Topps probably has lots of stickers of a couple of them they will be able to slap on Padres cards when they come out.
I have acquired a few more signed Padres cards. Jordan Paroubeck someone got signed during the Fall Instructional league and put it on ebay. Turner who will go to the Nationals sometime next year, Zech Lemond and Michael Gettys were all in the Bowman Draft Picks set. There is one other Padres draft pick that I can't afford, that is Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns quarterback.

Zoilo Versalles was the 10th selection of the Padres in the expansion draft but was traded to the Cleveland Indians for Bill Davis and never actually played for the Padres. He passed away in 1995.

Where are they now-The 1969 Padrographs, Part 1
In 1969 the second of two original California franchises began play as the San Diego Padres. The Padres were one of the four expansions team that began play in major league baseball. The Padres were 52-110 and finished last in their division. Chris Canizzaro was the franchises lone representative to the All-Star Game.
Jose Arcia played most of his major league career for the Padres. He played for the Cubs in 1968 and then played for the Padres in 1969 and 1970. He played in the minor leagues through 1976. He seems to be living in Miami at this time.
Danny Breeden never actually played for the Padres. His time in time in the majors was with the Cardinals in 1969 and the Cubs in 1971. He did play in the Padres system in 1973. He lives in Loxley, Alabama.
Dave Roberts is the first player to be named Dave Roberts on the Padres, but he wouldn't be the last. There will be two more before 2014. He played for the Padres from 1969-1971 and then played for 7 more teams before retiring in 1981. On the final day of the 1976 season Dave gave up Hank Aaron's last career hit. He died of lung cancer January 9, 2009.
Ollie Brown was the first player chosen by the Padres in the expansion draft. He started his career in 1965 with the Giants, he played with the Padres from 1969 to 1972, then 4 more teams before retiring w ith the Phillies in 1977.
Jerry DaVanon played in just 24 games for the Padres in 1969 having started the season in St. Louis and actually ending in St. Louis after those 24 games. He played through 1977 with several other teams including multiple stints with the Cardinals. He currently lives in Houston and officiates high school basketball.
Bill Davis played in 1965 and 1966 with the Indians and finished his major league career with the Padres in 1969. He finished in the minors and then retired to his hometown of Richfield, Minnesota where he worked in real estate and banking.
Tom Dukes played 2 seasons for Houston before playing 2 seasons in San Diego in '69 and '70. He then played a season in Baltimore and one for the Angels before retiring at the end of 1972.
Al Ferrara played with the Dodgers from 1963 to 1968 before playing with the Padres from 1969 to 1971 and finishing his career with the Reds in 1971. After baseball he had a construction company called Major League Construction, which he retired from in 2005 at age 65. When the recession hit in 2009 he lost much of his retirement income, he then went to work for the Dodgers in their community relations department.

The latest additions
There are at least 21 players that I still need to sign cards for me. They are over there to the right under Still To Sign. These are my latest pickups of signatures of Padres. Jason Marquis played for the Padres in 2012 and 2013. Yangervis Solarte came to the Padres part way through the 2014 season as part of the trade for Chase Headley.

More New Padrographs
This years Bowman Chrome had three Padres prospects in the set. The cards don't really look that bad, I think I need to clean my scanner. I paid less than $20 with shipping for all three cards. Edwin Moreno, the Padres had another Edwin Moreno a few years and I got this Edwin's signature at Eugene earlier this year. Franmil Reyes, played at Ft. Wayne this year for the Padres, Jose Urena was another played whose signature I got at Eugene this season also.

more additions
I am still able to find a few guys that I don't have cards of on Ebay and I have enjoyed making cards of some of the coaches that haven't had cards with the Padres. Jerry Hairston's card completes another set of brothers that have played for the Padres. Jerry and his brother Scott both played for the Padres in 2010. Alonzo Powell is one of the Padres hitting coaches.

Padrograph cards I wanted, and new additions
The first two cards are just ones I wanted when I saw them.
I love the Alexi Amarista card, he is one of my current favorite Padres and this just shows how small he is.
I wanted the card of Akinori Otsuka because he signed his name in characters. I am not sure if it is Kanji, Kata Kanji or Hira Gona, but it is the only card I have signed in Japanese.
Francisco Libran, Francisco played in 10 games for the Padres in 1969 and passed away in May of last year at the age of 65. Someone had this custom card made of him and tracked him down in Puerto Rico to get him to sign this.
Justin Hatcher, Justin was drafted by the Rangers in 2003 and played in their system through 2005. He played in the Padres system in 2006 and '07 and has been one of the bullpen catchers since 2008. I sent out 5 customs, Justin, Griffin Benedict, Jose Valentin, Alonzo Powell and A.J. Preller. All of them but the Preller have come back.
Griffin Benedict, Griffin was drafted by the Padres in 2009 and played in their system through 2010. He has been a bullpen catcher for the Padres since 2011.
Joe Wieland, Joe played for the Padres in 2012 and 2014. Got this on ebay.
Joaquin Benoit, Joaquin pitched in 53 games for the Padres this year and recorded 11 saves. Found this on ebay after mailing him some.
Randy Myers, Randy is a hard signature to get and I had some extra money this summer so I splurged and picked this up. Randy played for the Padres in 1992 and 1998.
Jose Valentin, Jose was the Padres first base coach this year. Returned it quickly after I mailed it to him.

Padrographs in the World Series-The Royal Blue
Taking a break today from the alphabetical presentation to acknowledge the World Series. Next year is the Padres year. But for today the Royals take the field.
Dave Eiland is the lone Padrograph represented on the Royals roster. There are no players currently playing for the Royals that I have signed Padres cards of. Dave pitched in 17 games for the Padres in 1992 and 1993. He was the Yankees pitching coach for 2 years from 2008 to 2010, he was then in an advisory role for the Rays for a year before being named pitching coach of the Royals in October of 2011.

Our almost 3 year old granddaughter has been staying with us since last Saturday while her parents attend Burning Man in the Nevada desert. We have watched Frozen, Toy Story 3 and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 at least 5 times each since then. Our boys did this also when they were little.
Give me a few days before watching them again.

This is the story of a lovely lady, a trainer and an awesome team!
Last night my brother in law, Chuck Berry (yes, really), his son in law Ryan Scholl and I went out to Hillsboro to see the Hops (short season A, Diamondbacks) play the Eugene Emeralds (short season A, Padres).
Previously this season I had gone down to Salem-Keizer to see the Ems play the Volcanoes (Giants) and had taken a bunch of pictures in the ensuing two weeks I had finished making the set of cards you see at left, they all have backs, but I wasn't too impressed with them, so I didn't scan any of them. So all the photos up to and including Franchy Cordero on the 4th sheet are photos that I took at the games in Salem.
Last night I got to the game as the gates opened and got several signatures. A couple of the players were amazed that I wanted their signatures. I had made two of each card, one to get signed and one to give the player. Before the game, Zech Lemond, the starting pitcher signed for me and asked me to hang on to his card til after the game. He came over and got it and I got some other signatures including Mitch Mattoon the trainer.
After I got as many signatures as I could and every one had left the dugout I left the stadium and noticed the Ems bus sitting there so I waited a few minutes and a lovely lady asked me who I was looking for. I told her and we talked and she was Nick Torres wife and she wanted to see his card, (third sheet, second row, left). We talked and she was from a town where many of my relatives lived and had gone to Oregon State. She then helped me id many of the players as they came out, since they look different without their hats and unis on. Karin made Nick go back and get his card so she could have it. The players, coaches, trainer and manager all helped load the bus. Several of the players came and talked with me about the cards. Walker Weickel (fourth sheet, center) wanted to know what game I had taken the picture of him at. So we talked for a couple of minutes. Travis Radke, (first card) had gone through the cards with me and told me who wasn't with the team any more. So the only cards that aren't signed are guys that weren't with the team anymore. I had 5 cards signed before I got to the game last night, ended up with a total of 39 signed out of 43, which means that I got 34 cards signed last night. Max Beatty (second sheet, bottom left) took the cards I had for guys on the bus and handed them out. As the bus got fuller I was down to two guys I still needed. Mitch, the trainer was the last guy out of the stadium and asked me if I still needed any one. I told him Marcus Davis and Tom Dorminy and he had one of the other guys ask them to come off the bus and sign the cards for me. I wanted to thank all the guys on the team for their cooperation and thank Karin for her help in identifying players and Mitch for helping me to finish with the signatures. It was a blast taking the pictures and then composing the cards and writing up the backs and doing all the work.
I have already started work on the design for next year. I will be going to Salem again next year because it is one of the best places to take pictures and it has good access to the players.
On a personal note, my youngest son is getting married this weekend so we will be busy this week so I don't think I will post much this week. And then the last week of the month we will baby sitting our 2 year old granddaughter so I don't see myself posting regularly until early next month.

This time the visitors lost but I got some signatures
Last night my friend Robert Jones picked me up after work and we drove down to Salem-Keizer to see the Volcanoes play the Emeralds. I like going there because I pay for General Admission and sit in my lawn chair and talk to the guys in the bullpen. I finally decided on a design for this years cards and this is it. I made backs for them and started numbering them at 141, card 1, 2014. The guys were happy as I gave them each one of their cards when they signed one for me. I am going to see the Ems play Hillsboro on August 9, so I need to get some more made before them. I took a lot of pictures again last night but I might have to resort to getting pictures off the web. So far I have made ten cards.
