Reggie and Scott

Reggie Sanders played in the majors for 17 seasons.  Some of these guys just play quietly from day to day and have long careers.  He played from 1991-1998 for the Reds, he was traded to the Padres in 1999 as part of a trade for Mark Sweeney and Greg Vaughn.  After the 1999 season he and Wally Joyner were part of a trade to Atlanta for Bret Boone and Ryan Klesko.  After Atlanta he played for the Diamondbacks, Giants, Cardinals, Pirates and Royals.  I got this Keebler card signed through the mail.  Scott Sanders had his jersey make an appearance on a Upper Deck card of TonyGwynn.  He was drafted by the Padres in 1990 and made his major league debut in '93 with the Padres.  He pitched for the Padres from 1993-1996 and in 1998.  He split 1997 between the Mariners and Tigers, he started 1998 in Detroit but finished the year in San Diego.   He played for the Cubs in 1999, the Indians in 2000 and the Ham Fighters in 2001.  I got this signed through the mail.

A.J. and Greg

A.J. Sager was drafted by the Padres in 1988 and made his major league debut in 1994 for the Padres.  After the '94 season he was granted free agency and signed with the Rockies, after a season in Denver he signed as a free agent with the Tigers.  He spent 3 seasons with the Tigers before retiring.  He is currently the pitching coach for the Toledo Mud Hens.  I got this card signed through the mail.  Greg Sain was drafted by the Padres in 2001.  He worked his way up to AAA Portland in 2005, in 2006 he played in the Northern League, and in the Yankees and Brewers organizations.  I got this signed through the mail also.

PUNK ROCK PAINT RULES!

A Couple of weeks ago Rob Deez, Isacc Cheong and Kenny Eng swung through Portland on their Adult Books Tour.  Driving them from San Diego to Portland and back again was Travis Peterson, the driving force behind Punk Rock Paint.   We met at Proper Eats, a vegan cafe, that was hosting a photo exhibit while the guys were trying to sing.  Travis brought me some really cool stuff, which I will now share with you.

A couple of pins from the Padres, the All Time Padres Team set and an 1988 Fleer Cello Pack with Tim Flannery on top.

A LOST jigsaw puzzle that I think may have some other goodies mixed in.

Actual nameplates off the backs of Ryan Klesko and Boomer Wells.

A couple of cards of the Worlds Greatest Hitters both in the Hall of Fame, both from San Diego and both former Padres.

A 1973 Sports Illustrated autographed by Basketball Hall of Famer, great Trailblazers center and all around groovy guy, Bill Walton.  This particular item was obtained for us by the lovely and talented Kerri Dopart.

Several Bruce Bochy cards that I needed for my run of Padres managers.

A baseball signed by the entire team that lost the 1998 World Series in four straight games.

This is what I think might be hidden in the Lost Jigsaw puzzle is the rest of the 1990 Topps Bip Roberts actual size jigsaw puzzle.

Thanks Travis, this is some really awesome stuff.

I haven't quit!

I have been busy with work and Christmas prep since the 4th of this month.  Plus I don't have anything past R, so I have to do that.  I also have to take pictures of the stuff Travis of Punk Rock Paint brought with him when he came to town earlier this month.  Some really cool stuff and we had a good time at the Vegan cafe.

Gary and Jerry

Gary Douglass Ross pitched for 10 seasons in the major leagues.  He was drafted by the Cubs in 1967 and pitched for them in '68.  He was traded to the Padres with Frankie Libran and Joe Niekro for Dick Selma.  He then stayed in San Diego for the next six years, before being traded to the Angels.  He pitched for the Angels for three years.  I got this signed through the mail.  Jeron Kennis Royster played third base for the Padres in '85-'86, he played for the Braves (10 years), Dodgers, White Sox and Yankees.  He managed the Brewers for part of 2002, then from 2008-2010 he managed the Lotte Giants in South Korea, becoming the first non Korean to manage in the league.  I got this signed through the mail back in 1987 or '88.

Vincente and Leo

Vincente Navarro Romo came to the majors from the Mexican League.  He was originally signed in 1964 and made his major league debut with the Dodgers in 1968 and also spent some time with the Indians  in '68.  He was with the Indians until traded to the Red Sox who traded him to the White Sox.  In late '72 the White Sox traded him to San Diego for Johnny Jeter.  He played 2 seasons for the Padres and then played seven seasons in Mexico before making a comeback in 1982 with the Dodgers.  He pitched in 15 games for the Dodgers in 1982.  I think I got this card through eBay.  Leonel Rosales is a relief pitcher for the Diamondbacks, he was drafted by the Padres in 2003 and then traded to the Diamondbacks in 2007 for Scott Hairston.  He has been pitching in relief for the D'backs since 2008.  I got this signed through the mail while Leo was still in the Padres organization.

Rich and Jesse

Richard Anthony Rodriguez brought Trevor Hoffman to San Diego.  He was drafted by the Mets in 1984 and traded to the Padres for a couple of minor leaguers in 1989.  He made his major league debut in 1990 and pitched in 191 games for the Padres before being traded along with Gary Sheffield for Andres Berumen, Jose Martinez and Trevor Hoffman.  After the Marlins he played with the Cardinals, Giants, Mets and Indians.  I got this signed through the mail.  Jesse Roman seems to have been drafted by the Cardinals in 2001 and went over to the Padres in 2004 and then disappeared from organized baseball.  I remember I got this signed through the mail.
